the most recent crime of genocide in Africa was committed against

the Rohingya people in Myanmar. While Myanmar is not located in Africa, it is still important to recognize and condemn this ongoing tragedy. Since August 2017, Myanmar's military has conducted a brutal campaign of violence and persecution against the Rohingya, a Muslim minority group in the predominantly Buddhist country. The United Nations has called the violence a textbook case of ethnic cleansing and, in 2018, the UN accused Myanmar's military of committing acts of genocide.

The most recent crime of genocide in Africa was committed against the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar (formerly Burma) starting in 2017. While Myanmar is not located in Africa, it is worth noting that genocide in Africa has occurred in the past, such as the Rwandan genocide in 1994 where an estimated 800,000 people, mostly from the Tutsi ethnic group, were killed by Hutu extremists. Other examples include the Darfur genocide in Sudan (2003-present) and the genocide in the Central African Republic (2013-present).
