the two british colonies in south africa

The two British colonies in South Africa were the Cape Colony and Natal. The Cape Colony was established in 1652 by the Dutch East India Company, but was taken over by the British in 1806. Natal was initially a Boer republic in the 1830s, but became a British colony after the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879. Both colonies were unified with other British territories in the region to form the Union of South Africa in 1910.
