What is a personal artist statement at this moment in time about Vincent van Goth? As you write it here, make sure to discuss your

intended message(s), processes, and choices made in the production of your artwork.

As he famously said, "real painters do not paint things as they are... they paint them as they themselves feel them to be." To Van Gogh the self-portrait is a study on himself and his own anguish. Each self-portrait by Van Gogh might be linked to a precise moment in his life, but the element common to all is that in every painting the face and the background are the key to observe what is hidden in his mind. My artwork takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. Often referencing American history, my work explores the varying relationships between popular culture and fine art.

In relation to Vincent van Gogh, I am fascinated by his ability to convey his mental state and emotions through his art. His bold use of color and expressive brushstrokes create a visceral experience for the viewer. My intention is to pay homage to Van Gogh by emulating his style in my own artwork and using it as a means to communicate my own experiences and emotions.

In the production of my artwork, I have made intentional choices to use bold colors and thick, textured brushstrokes reminiscent of Van Gogh's style. I have also chosen to incorporate personal symbols and imagery that hold significance to my own life. By blending these elements together, I hope to create pieces that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant.

My message through the use of Van Gogh's style is to remind viewers of the power of art as a means of expression and reflection. I also hope to encourage others to use their own creativity to express their inner thoughts and feelings, as Van Gogh did in his self-portraits. Overall, my artwork is an exploration of the complex relationship between art, emotion, and personal expression.
