Eveline

Eveline is a short story written by James Joyce, first published in 1914 as part of his famous collection of stories titled Dubliners. The story revolves around Eveline, a young woman who lives in Dublin with her father and siblings, and who dreams of escaping her mundane life and oppressive circumstances.

Through the story, Eveline debates whether or not to leave Ireland with a sailor named Frank, who she has fallen in love with. As she spends her final hours packing and preparing, she reflects on her past, her family, and the expectations that have been imposed upon her. She ultimately decides to stay in Dublin, feeling obligated to her family and overwhelmed by the unknown future that awaits her.

The story is known for its exploration of themes such as love, duty, family, and the constraints of society. It is also frequently cited as an example of Joyce's use of stream-of-consciousness narrative technique, which immerses the reader into the character's thoughts and emotions.
