Why did White Americans believe they had to move West?
In order to start a revolution against Mexico and form new states
In order to gain Mexican citizenship and rights
They believed it was a divine duty or their “manifest destiny” to spread across the continent of North America
and bring their civilization to new territories
To escape crowded and industrialized cities in the East and find new opportunities for land ownership and economic prosperity
To discover new resources, such as gold and silver, and gain wealth and fame
To establish new communities and build a stronger sense of national identity and patriotism.
