A moraine is created by the accumulation of sediment and rocks carried and deposited by glaciers. As glaciers move over land they pick up rocks and debris, and as they melt or retreat, they deposit this material in a ridge-like formation known as a moraine. Moraines can be found in areas where glaciers once existed, such as mountain valleys and regions near the poles.
