The feature that forms when one tectonic plate is forced to bend and dive under the other is a deep canyon. This process is called subduction, and it occurs at convergent plate boundaries, where two plates collide. One plate is denser and heavier, so it sinks beneath the other plate, creating a deep trench or canyon known as a subduction zone. The most well-known example of this is the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean.
