Description of the Development Area

Plants life:
Describe the plants that live in this environment and the ways they are well suited to life here

Animal Life:
Describe the animals that live in this environment and the ways they are well suited to life here

Human Life:
Why are humans interested in this area. What makes it a nice place to live work or play

How can we as humans build places to live work and play while preserving a variety of natural creatures in the environment?

In this portfolio you will propose a construction project. This can be a houses, office, hotel, or park - anything that you think human beings would enjoy.

You will describe the area where this will be constructed, and some of the possible negative impacts of construction. Then you will describe your plan to complete the construction while minimizing damage to the local area and

preserving the biodiversity of the surrounding. Do some research on sustainable building practices and cite at least one source in your portfolio.

The project will be graded out of a possible 16 pts:

The Build Site (+4)
Possible Negative Impacts (+4)
The Plan (+5)
Cite a Source (+1)
Style/Effort (+2)

Title: Eco-Friendly Resort in The Tropical Rainforest

Development Area: The Tropical Rainforest

Plant Life:
The tropical rainforest is known for its dense vegetation and vast variety of plant species, making it one of the most diverse and flourishing ecosystems in the world. Plant life in this environment includes tall trees such as the Kapok and Euterpe, a mix of shrubs and vines including the Liana, and various types of herbaceous plants like ferns and palms. These plants are well-suited for this environment due to their diverse adaptations for survival. They have developed features such as large leaves to maximize the amount of sunlight captured, buttressed roots for structural support, and drip tips to shed excess water.

Animal Life:
The tropical rainforest is a haven for a vast array of animal life, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. Some notable inhabitants include the jaguar, orangutan, sloths, toucans, and poison-dart frogs. These animals have developed various adaptive features to survive in the dense foliage and obscurity of this environment. For instance, animals like jaguars and sloths have developed excellent climbing abilities, while many species of birds exhibit vibrant colors to attract mates or ward off predators. Insects often have developed effective camouflage techniques to blend into their surroundings.

Human Life:
Humans are interested in this area for its rich biodiversity, natural resources, and potential for tourism. The tropical rainforest offers a unique and enchanting environment for individuals looking to explore and connect with nature. Building eco-friendly structures can provide opportunities for tourism and research while preserving the ecosystem.

The Build Site:
A plot of land within the tropical rainforest that has been previously impacted by deforestation, allowing us to minimize damages to the pristine portions of the forest.

Possible Negative Impacts:
- Deforestation and habitat loss for plant and animal species
- Pollution from construction activities and waste
- Noise disturbance affecting animal behavior
- Impacts on water systems due to construction runoff and waste

The Plan:
Our proposal is to construct an eco-friendly resort that incorporates sustainable building practices to minimize the environmental impact while preserving biodiversity in the surrounding areas.

1. Use locally sourced, sustainable materials for construction, including bamboo and reclaimed wood.

2. Employ green architectural design principles, such as passive solar design, natural ventilation, and green roofs.

3. Harness renewable energy sources, such as solar power and rainwater collection systems.

4. Incorporate measures to prevent soil erosion, control invasive species, and protect wildlife habitats during construction.

5. Implement a waste management system to recycle and compost waste materials.

6. Promote environmental education and awareness programs for guests, staff, and the local community.

Style/Effort:
Our Eco-Friendly Resort in The Tropical Rainforest has been meticulously planned with the goal of minimizing its impact on the environment and preserving the biodiversity of this unique and rich ecosystem. By incorporating sustainable building practices, renewable energy sources, and a focus on environmental education, we strive to create a harmonious balance between human enjoyment and ecological preservation.
