Read "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

In 3-5 sentences, identify and explain at least two stylistic devices that the poet uses to add interest and meaning to the poem.

One stylistic device used in the poem is personification, where nature is given human-like qualities. For example, "Her early leaf's a flower" gives the impression that nature is a woman who is nurturing and delicate. Another device used is metaphor, where the poet compares the fleeting beauty of nature to the impermanence of life. The line "So Eden sank to grief" is a metaphor for the loss of innocence and the inevitability of change.
