Imagine that you are the President of the United States, delivering a speech in the wake of a recent national tragedy. Compose a speech similar in style to that of President Roosevelt, making use of realism, determinism, and patriotism in your speech.

Be sure to include the following:

A short exposition of what happened
At least two ways in which the United States was attacked without provocation
What the nation's response must be in light of this

Ladies and gentlemen, my fellow Americans,

Today, we are united in mourning, standing steadfast amidst the smoking ruins of a tragedy which has violently struck the heart of our nation. It is in the face of such darkness that our will is put to the test, and we collectively grieve with a deep, abiding sorrow.

This tragic hour brought devastating news to our front doors: a brutal massacre, the likes of which we have not known since the days of Pearl Harbor, has left hundreds of our fellow citizens lying cold and lifeless on this very soil.

America, without provocation or cause, has been ruthlessly targeted, beaten by those who seek to fray the very fabric of our society. Our landmarks, symbols of our perseverance, and the icons of our democracy, have been toppled by the cruel hands of our enemies. Our citizens have been held hostage, forced to witness hatred and despair, and our security has been utterly infiltrated.

But, while we ache and while we feel the loss of our cherished brethren, we have been reminded that America is not solely defined by this tragedy, but by the indomitable spirit and unyielding faith of her people.

Our great nation, founded on the principles of freedom, justice, and equality, has for the second time been struck by an antagonistic and inhumane storm. Firstly, our cyber domain, the new frontier of warfare, has been brought to its knees. Handpicked by malicious intent, the very infrastructure on which our society relies, has been compromised. Privacy, the cornerstone of our republic, and the building block of our self-governance, has been stolen from the hands of the innocent.

Following this insidious attack, the enemy struck again, deploying lethal weapons of mass destruction in the heart of our homeland. As our citizens lie beneath the remains of our glorious monuments, we are reminded of the precariousness of our hard-won peace.

Now, as the echoes of this tragedy reverberate through our land, we must answer this brutal violation with forceful determination. We will meet these challenges head-on, as only we know how.

It is up to us, my fellow Americans, to bind our nation's wounds and rebuild our dreams with calloused hands and a steady heart. We must renew our faith in the system that has granted us liberty for centuries.

The path to victory will be long, but we are guided by the spirit of those who have come before us, and emulate their courage, resilience, and patriotism.

We shall marshal our resources, rally our allies, and pursue our adversaries until they are brought to justice. Our great nation shall not blandly accept this assault on our way of life. No, America will roar with a singular voice, soar with the blazing wings of vengeance, and cleave the darkness that seeks to consume us.

Let not this tragic hour engulf our soul, but rather fuel our purpose. Together, we shall rise from these ashes, our spirit unbroken, our flags held high! On this somber day, let us join hands and unite as one people to make a solemn vow: that they who dared harm us shall face the wrath of our just requital, that the eternal flame of freedom shall never be extinguished, and that the American nation will remain a beacon of light to guide the world unto the end of its days.

God bless you all, and God bless the United States of America.
