In Jack London's novel The Call of the Wild, Spitz is a lead dog in the team of sled dogs that the protagonist, Buck, is a part of. Spitz is a fierce and aggressive leader who is determined to maintain his dominance over the other dogs. He is eventually killed by Buck in a fight for dominance.
