Kumamoto had 2/3 as many tennis balls as Wilson. After Kumar bought another 8 tennis balls and Wilson lost 5 of his tennis balls, the number of tennis balls Kumar had became 80% of Wilson’s. How many tennis balls did Kumar have at first?

k = 2/3 w

k+8 = 4/5 (w-5)
so k=60

Let Wilson had x balls

∴ Kumar will have 2/3x balls.
Now as per question,
Kumar bought another 8 balls,
Kumar has 2/3x + 8 = (2x + 24)/3 balls.
and Wilson lost 5 balls,
∴ Wilson will have (x - 5) balls
∴ as per question,
(2x + 24)/3 = 80/100 (x - 5)
or
(2x + 24)/3 = 4/5 (x - 5)
10x + 120 = 12x - 60
or 2x = 180
∴ x = 90
∴ in beginning, No. of balls
with Kumar = 2/3 * x
= 2/3 * 90 = 60
∴ Kumar had 60 balls
