How can I switch between different POVs (first person, third person) in my story without being too disruptive?

The best ways I've seen that done are by 1) using flashbacks and 2) using a frame story.

Thank you. I think I might use first-person the most because I find it harder to convey the character's thinking in third-person, and it just feels more personal.

To switch between different points of view (POVs) in a story without disrupting the flow, you can follow a few techniques:

1. Establish clear transitions: Before switching to a different POV, provide a clear transition point such as a chapter break, section break, or scene change. This helps signal the switch and prepares the reader for a new perspective.

2. Consistency: Maintain consistency within each POV segment. Stick to the chosen POV for a reasonable length of time, typically a chapter or a scene, to give readers a chance to immerse themselves in that character's perspective.

3. Use character cues: As you transition between POVs, include clear character cues to indicate the change. This can be done through using the character's name as a chapter title, starting the section with the character's unique voice, or including a brief identifier at the beginning of each new POV segment.

4. Seamless transitions: When transitioning from one POV to another within a scene, use seamless transitions to avoid jarring the reader. This can be done through employing natural breaks in the narrative, such as a change in setting, dialogue, or action.

5. Differentiate narrative voices: Ensure that each POV has a distinct narrative voice and perspective. This helps readers easily identify whose point of view they are experiencing and keeps the voices of your characters unique and authentic.

6. Consider the story's structure: Think about the overall structure of your story and how the different POVs fit into it. Decide if you want to alternate POVs in every chapter, have specific sections devoted to certain characters, or use a particular pattern throughout the narrative.

Remember, the key to successfully switching between different POVs is to create a logical and smooth transition that allows readers to follow the story without disruption.
