What is wrong with an oldfashioned note? Or even a note via email?
To me, note is the thing to do.

Yes, I know, the purists will say a note is an informal letter. That still is the best choice to me.

I think it all depends if you want it short and sweet and right to the point then memo is the way to go if not then write a letter!

I want to write a memo to my boss, Mr Wonder requesting three weeks' paid vacation for next month. However, after a first day's work, I decided that I need a break.

Subject: Request for Three Weeks' Paid Vacation

Dear Mr. Wonder,

I hope this memo finds you well. I am writing to formally request a three-week paid vacation for next month. After carefully considering my workload and personal circumstances, I have come to the decision that taking a break would greatly benefit my overall well-being and productivity.

To ensure a smooth workflow during my absence, I have assigned my tasks and responsibilities to a trusted colleague, [Colleague's Name]. I am confident in their ability to handle these tasks effectively in my absence.

During my vacation, I intend to rest and recharge, which will ultimately enhance my performance upon my return. I believe that this time away from work will enable me to approach my duties with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

I have attached a proposed vacation schedule for your reference. Please review it and let me know if any modifications or adjustments need to be made. I understand that the final decision regarding granting my vacation request rests with you, and I assure you that I will adhere to any guidelines or conditions set forth.

I would be happy to discuss my request further at your earliest convenience. I appreciate your attention to this matter and your consideration of my need for time off. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Yours sincerely,
