Well I know how to do it but I can't get the answer.
Trapezoid:
height, 9 1/5ft; bases, 20 ft,14 ft
What gets me stuck is the 1/5 part. Can anyone help??
9 1/5 feet = 46/5 feet
are you finding the area?
are 20 and 14 feet the lengths of the parallel sides?
then Area = 46/5(20+14)/2
= 156.4 feet^2 or 156 2/5 feet^2
Thank you very much and yes I was trying to find the area =]
Of course! I'd be happy to help you with your trapezoid problem.
To find the area of a trapezoid, you can use the formula:
Area = (1/2) * (base1 + base2) * height
In this case, the height is given as 9 1/5ft, which can also be written as a mixed number 9 + 1/5 or, as an improper fraction, 46/5.
So, let's substitute the given values into the formula:
Area = (1/2) * (20ft + 14ft) * 46/5ft
Next, we can simplify the calculation:
Area = (1/2) * (34ft) * (46/5ft)
Now, let's multiply the numbers:
Area = (17ft) * (46/5ft)
To multiply fractions, we simply multiply the numerators together and the denominators together:
Area = (17ft * 46) / (5ft)
Area = 782ft / 5ft
Finally, to get a simplified answer, we divide the numerator by the denominator:
Area = 156.4ft²
So, the area of the trapezoid is 156.4 square feet.
Remember that when working with mixed numbers, it's helpful to convert them to improper fractions for the calculations.
