if a flag is 4 feet by 6 feet, has 13 horizontal stripes(6 white and 7 green) and has a green square in the upper left hand corner measuring 25 inches by 30 inches how many square inches are the white stripes of the flag? Express your answeras a decimal to the nearest tenth.

each stripe is 1/13 * 4ft = 4/13 ft = 48/13 in. wide

25 in / 48/13 in = 6.77 stripes high.

That means there are 3 short white stripes, and 3 long white stripes.

3(48-30) + 3(48) = 3(66) = 198 inches of white stripe

198 * 48/13 = 731.1 in^2 of white stripes
