Homework Help: math

the same cereal costs $3.99 per box at one store, $3.25 at another store and $3.59 per box at the third store what is the average price per box of cereal?
solve using an algebra form.
I know how to get the answer but what algebreic form would i use?
3x=1083
x=$3.61
I don't think that is what they are looking for seems too simple
