Just measuring knowledge at a particular level can be counterproductive for the students' overall education. It may not leave time for the "fun" projects that capture the students' interests in the subject. If the work is all drudgery, the student may turn off on the subject and refuse to take any more classes in it.
A parent may see the decrease in their child's interest. They may also see discouragement if the student doesn't test well.
