To reduce the loading from snow on the roof, a ski chalet design calls for the roof slope to be 36 degrees from vertical. If the width of the base is 14.0 m, what is the slant height of the roof?

Basically, I'm having some trouble with the terms and not getting the question.. What does 36 degrees from the vertical meen? And what is a slant height? If possible please make a diagram! :(

The vertical is straight up and down. The roof slants 36 degrees from that.

The base can be viewed as the bottom of a triangle, with one side horizontal (the base) and another vertical. The third side comes out 36 degrees from the vertical dimension.

The slant height would seem to be the length of the third side.

However, from your problem, I cannot tell whether the base covers two triangles, with the roof sloping in two directions (^) or one triangle, with the roof sloping only in one direction (/).

I hope this helps a little. Thanks for asking.

Okay, don't worry. I just got it!
Thanks for trying to help me!

You're welcome! I'm glad you were able to understand the concept. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
