Be more specific with parentheses. Does the 1+i divide into only the i^3 term? Or does it divide into 1  2i + i^3?

Since you are dividing two expressions with the same base, you can just subtract the exponents: i^(163) = i^13 And since i = (1)^(1/2), any i to an even power will yield 1. So: i^12 * i^1 = (1) * i = i
