How do I solve this system using substitution?
y = 8 - x
7 = 2 - y
How did you get y = -5?
The second equation looks a bit off, but assuming there is no typo, then we have
7 = 2-y
y = -5
substitute that into the other equation to get
y = 8-x
-5 = 8-x
x = 13
y = 8 - x
7 = 2 - y
Substitute the first equation into the second.
7 = 2 - (8 - x)
7 = 2 - 8 + x
7 = -6 + x > subtract 6 on both sides
7 + 6 = -6 + 6 + x
13 = x

for part 2 of that equation you would plug in 13 for x in y=8-x. so that would be y=8-13 which would give you -5.
the answer is (13, -5)
