I have always wanted to go to college from the first moment I understood what it meant to go to college. I look around my small town and I see so many talented people who never had the chance to go to college. Then I look at my family and no one in my immediate family has ever gone to college. My grandparents never completed high school and my mom was accepted to college but she could not afford to go to Saint Augustine College an HBCU in North Carolina.

In the 1980’s when my mom got accepted into Saint Augustine College HBCU’s around the country still had a large enrollment compared to HBCU’s today. It’s the 21st century and now some people may ask me why not go to a mainstream college a non HBCU like Francis Marion University, Lander University, or the University of South Carolina. My main reason for attending Claflin University is because I want to attend a prestigious four year University where everyone has morals, beliefs, and a set of ideals. The fact that everyone who attends the University is black is icing on the cake. The university is small and it seems that everyone might know everyone and I like that aspect of the University because in Darlington, SC everyone knows everyone.

I also like how everyone is known by name and not by number like at large Universities. My future plans for life after college is still a mystery to me. I believe that the future comes one day at a time and at the moment I‘m interested in learning about other cultures. I took an international relations class and I studied the country of Sudan and we talked about terrorism I learned so much in the class. Last year I also went with my school to Western Europe and I loved going to the museums and I loved experiencing a new culture.

I love to travel, write speeches, and debate which you could find out from my American government teacher because I out debated my other opponents by being the republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. Politics is something I’m interested in
I will watch CNN, and CSAN at least once everyday. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are two of the main people that have gotten me interested in politics. America will either have its first black president first woman president or if the republicans somehow win then the oldest president in US history.

So this is me like the entire eclectic group of friends I have. I have so many things I’m interested in or good at. I want to leave college with direction, focus, and a chosen career path. I want to choose a career where I will be happy and successful. Successful not just financially, but successful with my life as a whole. I want to wake up everyday happy to go to work, not as I am now when I have to go to a math class.

Your essay is good -- except for the last clause. Ending with a negative is not a good way to sell yourself.
