how do you work with factoring GCF problems?

  1. find the prime factors of each number.
    The GCF is the highest power of each prime that they have in common

    80=2^4*5
    60=2^2*3*5

    GCF(60,80) = 2^2*5 = 20

    3 is not common to both numbers, so it is not a factor of the GCF.
