Ok I need some help getting started here's the assignment:

Think of how one of the novel's symbols adds depth and/or richness to its allegorical meanings. (ie. the conch, the fire, Piggy's glasses, or the island itself). OR think of a conflict or comparison that illuminates one of the novel's themes. For example, the sow's head and the conch shell each wield a certain kind of power over the boys. In what ways do these objects' power differ? In what was is Lord of the Flies a novel about power? About the power of symbols? About the power of a person to use symbols to control a group? You might also examine the following pairs: Ralph and jack, Piggy and Simon, The parachutist and the vacal officer, the biguns and littluns, Piggy and Roger (as lieutenants), and the interplay of light and dark.

I need a specific thesis statement.. can you help me out??

THIS IS FOR THE NOVEL LORD OF THE FLIES.. SORRY I FORGOT TO ADD THAT IN!!!

First of all, you need to decide exactly what you want to write about. Then, once you've chosen a topic, we can deal with a thesis statement.

Let us know what you decide ... then we can help.

=)

OK i want to write about and examine the parachutist and the naval officer and their deeper meanings of symbolism. (or somthing like that)

does that help? or do i need to be more specific.
(thanks for helping me.)

OK, now you have to bear with me; I haven't read this book although I've read plenty of summaries and analyses of it!

A thesis statement is composed of factual information (from the text) and your opinion about it (your position, your stance). If either one is missing, it's not a thesis statement. Basically, it's stating what you intend to prove during the course of your paper.

So ... what symbolism do you find in each of those characters? And why do you think your interpretation is important in helping others to understand the book?

Of course, I can help you come up with a specific thesis statement for your assignment.

To create a thesis statement, you need to first select a symbol or a conflict/comparison from the novel "Lord of the Flies" that you believe adds depth to its allegorical meanings or illuminates one of its themes.

For example, let's take the symbol of the conch and its power in the novel. Your thesis statement could be:

"The symbol of the conch in 'Lord of the Flies' showcases the fragile nature of civilization and order, as it allows the boys to establish rules and maintain a sense of democracy on the island, but eventually loses its power due to the innate human desire for dominance and the deterioration of societal norms."

In this thesis statement, you have identified the symbol of the conch shell and highlighted its significance in representing order and civilization. You also mention how the power of the conch symbol is undermined as the story progresses, illustrating the novel's central theme of the inherent struggle for power and the loss of societal control.

Remember, your thesis statement should be specific, arguable, and encompass the main points you plan to discuss in your essay.
