In French, there are indeed different ways to ask questions, and it might seem a bit confusing at first. Let's break it down and explain each method.

1. Inversion:
This is the most formal way to ask a question in French. With inversion, you switch the order of the subject pronoun (in this case, "tu") and the verb (in this case, "as"). So instead of saying "Tu as un chien?" (You have a dog?), you would say "As-tu un chien?" (Do you have a dog?). This is the standard way to ask a question in written French or in formal situations.

2. Est-ce que:
Using "est-ce que" is a more common and informal way to form questions in French. In this case, you simply place "est-ce que" before the subject pronoun and the verb. For example, "Est-ce que tu as un chien?" (Do you have a dog?). This form is generally used in spoken French and can be used in both formal and informal situations.

3. Intonation:
With intonation, you keep the word order identical to a declarative sentence, but you raise your voice at the end of the sentence to indicate a question. For example, "Tu as un chien?" with a rising intonation would mean "Do you have a dog?". This method is also used in spoken French and can be used in both formal and informal situations. However, note that intonation questions are more common in informal conversations.

So, to summarize:
- Use inversion for formal written French or formal situations.
- Use "est-ce que" for informal spoken French or both formal and informal situations.
- Use intonation for informal spoken French or both formal and informal situations.

It's important to note that all three forms are grammatically correct, and the choice between them mainly depends on the level of formality and personal preference.

I hope this helps clarify the different ways to ask questions in French! Let me know if you have any further questions.
