Solve x^3-3x^2-10x=0 by factoring.
Take out x.
x(x^2-3x-10)=0
For the polynomial inside the parentheses, you want factors of 10 that will add or subtract to give 3. 10 and 1 gives 11 or 9 so that is no good. But 5 and 2 are ok. 5*2=10 and 5-2=3.
x(x+2)(x-5)=0

Yes, but there is another answer too. Isn't x=0 (from first x) factored out?
