  1. Which estimate is the best for 1/2 of 385?

    A)2
    B)20
    C)19
    D)39

None of these answers is correct. Half of 385 is almost 200.

The International Space Station is about 30 ft. from end to-end. A model of the sace station is 24 in. What scale was used to build the model?

    A)1 in. = 1.25 in.
    B)1 in. = 1.25 ft.
    C)1 in. = 8 in.
    D)1 in. = 8 ft.

Imagine a 30-foot long room (like your classroom), which is the length of the space station. Your model is only 24 inches (2 feet) long (about the length of my arm and hand). Obviously, A and C, then, are wrong. Which do you think is correct -- B or D?

A soup recipe calls for 2 pounds of rice for 25 servings. How many pounds are needed for 30 servings?

    A)3.5
    B)0.5
    C)2.4
    D)3.3

Since 2 pounds of rice serves 25, then 1 pound of rice serves 12-13. Thirty servings is only 5 more than 25. Which do you think is the logical answer?

  2. Is the second one B and the last one B too?

  3. The second one is B. :-)

For the third one -- you'd only serve about 6 people with 0.5 (1/2) pound of rice. You need more than 2 pounds to serve 30 people.

Hint: 3 pounds of rice would serve about 37 people.

What number is between 2 and 3 in your possible answers?

  4. oh 2.4 right?
