Hi all english teachers,

Could you please help me with my english essay. I have to write a 600-800 word reflection outlining the poems that I learned in the unit which are ("The call" by Jessie Pope, "The send off" by wilfred Owen, "I was only 19" by John Schumann and most importantly "Dulce et decorum est" by Wilfred Owen). The essay should contain the themes and motivation of the poetry.

The essay should:
-Analyse how the composers present his/her ideas, using sophisticated and extensive evidence.
-uses appropriate media to perceptively articulate and represent their own ideas and about the text.
-Compose the response in correct form and structure, use sophisticated vocabulary and outstanding spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Please help I am in year 10. I am very bad at english. I get C grades in most of my tests. so please help me.

Dear student,

I'd be happy to help you with your English essay. Writing a reflection on poems can be a creative and interesting task. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you structure your essay and analyze the themes and motivation of the poetry you've learned.

Step 1: Understanding the poems
Before you start writing your reflection, make sure you thoroughly understand the poems you'll be discussing. Read and reread each poem multiple times to grasp their meaning, imagery, and literary techniques used by the poets.

Step 2: Identify the themes
Look for common themes among the poems. Each poem may have multiple themes, so try to identify the most prominent ones. For example, possible themes in the poems you mentioned could be war, patriotism, disillusionment, and the horrors of combat.

Step 3: Analyze the poems
For each theme, analyze how the poets present their ideas. Look for literary devices such as metaphors, similes, imagery, and symbolism. Consider the tone and mood of the poems to understand the poets' perspectives. Pay attention to word choice, sentence structure, and the overall poetic techniques employed.

Step 4: Gather evidence
To support your analysis, gather evidence from the poems. Quote lines or stanzas that exemplify the themes or the poets' motivation. Make sure you explain how each piece of evidence relates to your analysis.

Step 5: Structure your essay
To compose a well-structured essay, consider the following format:

Introduction:
- Provide a brief overview of the unit you studied and introduce the poems you'll discuss.
- Clearly state your thesis, which should encapsulate the themes and motivation of the poetry you'll explore.

Body paragraphs:
- Each paragraph should focus on a different theme.
- Start each paragraph with a strong topic sentence that indicates the theme you'll discuss.
- Support your topic sentence with evidence and analysis from the poems.
- Be sure to explain how the evidence connects to the theme and how it reflects the motivation of the poets.
- Use appropriate media (quotations, examples) effectively to articulate your ideas.

Conclusion:
- Summarize the main points of your essay.
- Reinforce the overarching themes and motivation discussed.
- Leave the reader with a thoughtful final remark.

Step 6: Revise and edit
After finishing your first draft, take some time to revise and edit your essay. Check for errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Make sure your ideas flow logically and that your vocabulary is sophisticated. Consider getting feedback from a teacher or someone skilled in English writing.

Remember, practice makes perfect, and even if you currently get C grades, with time and effort, you can improve your English skills. Good luck with your essay, and let me know if you need any further assistance.
