Sooo I'm a little confused on these 2 questions:
1. Sample:
a. method of collecting, presenting, and describing sample data
b. a numerical value summarizing all the data of an entire population
c. a collection, or set, of individuals, objects, or event whose properties are to be analyzed
d. a set of data drawn from the population
Population:
(same choices as above)
The thing is, I'm pretty sure population is (A collection, or set, of individuals, objects...)But I'm not sure for sample. I feel like the same answer is correct for sample...however, one of my tutors was saying that B is the correct answer for Sample.
I don't know why that seems weird to me. I feel like B is the definiton of parameter
Can I get some help please!
NEVERMIND. I figured it out
Sample is neither C nor B....It is D
Of course! I can explain the concepts of sample and population to you.
A sample refers to a subset of individuals, objects, or events from a larger population that are selected for analysis. In other words, it represents a smaller group that is taken from the whole population. Let's go through the options given:
a. Method of collecting, presenting, and describing sample data: This option does not define what a sample is. It rather describes the process of handling and analyzing the collected data from a sample.
b. A numerical value summarizing all the data of an entire population: This option does not define what a sample is. In fact, this definition aligns more with describing a parameter, which is a characteristic or summary measure of a population.
c. A collection or set of individuals, objects, or events whose properties are to be analyzed: This is indeed the correct definition for a population. It refers to the entire group of individuals, objects, or events that we want to gain information about.
d. A set of data drawn from the population: This option correctly describes what a sample is. A sample is obtained by selecting a subset of data from the population.
In summary, the correct definitions are:
- Sample: A set of data drawn from the population
- Population: A collection or set of individuals, objects, or events whose properties are to be analyzed
Your tutor may have confused the definitions of a sample and a parameter. A parameter is a summary measure of a population, whereas a sample is a subset of the population. It's important to understand the distinction between these two concepts.
