Equation help?

From midnight to 6:00 am, the temperature rose 8°C. At 6:00 am, the temperature was –20°C. What was the temperature at midnight.

I know it's -20-8 = -28 C temp at 12am, but how do I write it an equation?

1. let Tm = temperature at midnight.
and T6 = temperature at 6 a.m.
-------------------------
midnight =====> 6 A.M.
Tm.....+8.....-20
Tm + 8 = T6
Substitute and solve.
Tm + 8 = -20
Tm = -20-8
Tm = -28 C.

We know that from midnight to 6am the temperature went up 8° and at 6am it was -21°

To find what it was at midnight we have to work backwards

Since it went up we have to subtract 8 from -21

-21 - 8 = -29
