A piece of dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) with a mass of 5.40 g is placed in a 10.0 L vessel?
that already contains air at 715 torr and 25 degrees C. After the carbon dioxide has totally vaporized, what is the partial pressure of the carbon dioxide and the total pressure in the container at 25 degrees C?

1. I assume the vessel is CLOSED.
Use PV = nRT and solve for pCO2.
n = grams CO2/molar mass CO2.
pair (from the problem) is 715 torr.
Ptotal = pCO2 + pair but not that pCO2 is in atm and pair is in torr.

Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. Instead of melting, solid carbon dioxide sublimes according to the following equation: CO2(s)--> CO2(g). When dry ice is added to warm water, heat from the water causes the dry ice to sublime more

Dry Ice. At standard atmospheric pressure, the solid form of carbon dioxide called “dry ice” undergoes a phase change not to a liquid but straight to a gas. This process is called sublimation, and like other phase transitions
