Can you convert density to moles?

I am given the density of a substance [0.789 g/mL] but I need to know the number of moles for the equation.

You cannot convert density to moles, unless you also know the volume and the molecular formula.

(density) * Volume = mass = (# of moles)* (molecular weight)

To convert density to moles, you first need to know the volume of the substance and its molecular formula. The equation you would use is:

(density) * Volume = mass

where the mass is equal to the number of moles multiplied by the molecular weight. The molecular formula will give you the atomic composition and relative masses of the elements in the substance.

Once you have determined the mass, you can then calculate the number of moles by dividing the mass by the molecular weight of the substance:

(# of moles) = (mass) / (molecular weight)

So, in order to convert density to moles, you need to know both the volume and the molecular formula of the substance.
