Hi,

This is the third time I posted this because it wasn't answered by anyone. PLEASE help. I think the first part is correct but I am not sure if the V=lw10 is correct. I got 10 for the number of cubes. Here is the question

There is a picture with stacked cubes that are each 2inches.

Each side of a cube in the diagram measures 2 inches. What is the total surface area and volume of the solid?
I did A=s squared A=2 squared
A= 4inch squared
SA= 4(36)= 144inch squared
V=lw10
v=2(2)10 = 40 inch cubed
is this correct?
These are the numbers I got to plug into the formula
front and back of the tower=20
side=4 bottom=4 side#2=4 top=4
all together =36, this is how I came up with my numbers. Hopefully, I did it correctly. Thanks for checking this

To find the total surface area and volume of the solid, you have to consider all the faces of the cubes.

Let's start with the surface area (SA). Each face of a cube measures 2 inches by 2 inches, so the area of each face is 2 inches multiplied by 2 inches, which equals 4 square inches. Since there are six faces in total, you multiply the area of one face by 6 to find the total surface area. Therefore, SA = 4 square inches x 6 = 24 square inches. It seems like you made an error in your calculation.

However, in your explanation, you mentioned a tower of cubes with different dimensions. If the front and back of the tower have 20 faces in total, and the sides, bottom, and top have 4 faces each, then the total number of faces would be 20 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 36. In that case, you need to multiply the area of one face (4 square inches) by 36 to find the total surface area. Therefore, SA = 4 square inches x 36 = 144 square inches.

For the volume (V), you need to consider the dimensions of the cubes. In this case, each cube measures 2 inches by 2 inches by 2 inches. To find the volume, multiply the length (2 inches), width (2 inches), and height (2 inches) together. Therefore, V = 2 inches x 2 inches x 2 inches = 8 cubic inches.

It seems like you made a mistake in your calculation for the volume. You multiplied the length (2 inches) by the width (2 inches) and then by 10. However, there is no information given in the question about multiplying by 10, so the correct volume should be V = 2 inches x 2 inches x 2 inches = 8 cubic inches.

To summarize:
- If you are referring to a single cube, the correct surface area (SA) is 24 square inches, and the correct volume (V) is 8 cubic inches.
- If you are referring to a tower of cubes with dimensions given in your explanation, the correct surface area (SA) is 144 square inches, and the correct volume (V) is 8 cubic inches.
