What does class-system and class-state mean? I can't find the meanings in the dictionary.

A class system is one in which people are divided into social classes by tradition and by law. People usually inherit their social class from their parents, although in the Western world today, some people attain high status by their wealth -- or sink to a low status because of their lack of wealth.

The class system was prevalent in Europe during the Feudal times, and remnants of it persisted until World War II. India is a prime example of a rigid class system. It's been outlawed, but still exists. Check these articles for more information.

You're welcome.

The terms "class-system" and "class-state" are primarily used in the field of sociology and political science. They refer to concepts related to social stratification and the hierarchical organization of society based on social and economic inequalities.

A class-system is a societal structure that categorizes individuals into different social classes based on their occupation, wealth, and social status. These classes often exhibit distinct characteristics, lifestyles, and opportunities, leading to unequal distributions of power and resources. Examples of social classes include the upper class, middle class, and working class.

On the other hand, class-state is a more specific concept introduced by Marxist theory. It refers to the idea that the state, which encompasses the government and its institutions, is a tool primarily used by the ruling class to maintain their dominance over the lower classes. According to Marxist analysis, the ruling class controls the state apparatus and utilizes its power to perpetuate economic and social disparities in society.

To find the meanings of such concepts, consulting a standard dictionary may not be sufficient. Instead, you can refer to academic sources like textbooks, scholarly articles, or reputable websites specializing in sociology or political science. These resources will provide more in-depth explanations of the concepts and their relevance within the field of study.
