I was ask by my literacy professor to find a sample unit plan that focuses on animals that live in the water/oceans/seas. The unit should include what the animals eat? How they survive underwater? How they move underwater? (amoung other things)

She also wants the sample unit to have a literacy focus meaning that each lesson in the unit should focus on enhancing a particular comprehension skill.

I looked online but I don't seem to find a unit that focuses on this topic.

Could you help me! Is there any websites that you recommend. Even if you know a book that you can recommend, I would be truly grateful.

Since both you and SraJMcGin have looked online for this specific lesson plan, I think we can assume that it doesn't exist online. In an earlier post, you also specified that it should be for 4th graders.

Sra posted two excellent websites for this information. You may need to take this information and develop your own lesson plan that encompasses the requirements for this assignment.

It would also be helpful to know what printed text materials your students have available.

If I were developing this lesson plan, I'd --

1. List the goals and objectives

2. List the methods for achieving these goals:
a. read text
b. watch visuals
c. participate in class discussion

3. Test the students' knowledge by
having them:
a. answer factual questions in complete sentences
b. write a fictional story pretending they are an animal that lives in the water

4. Evaluate whether the students have accomplished the goals.

I am doing this for my Literacy class. our goal is not to create a unit but to find a unit and to evaluate whether or not that unit caters to the needs of the students it targets especially in terms of literacy....

Certainly! I recommend using the following steps to find a sample unit plan that focuses on animals living in water/oceans/seas, while also incorporating a literacy focus:

1. Start by searching for keywords related to the topic, such as "water animals unit plan," "ocean animals lesson plan," or "sea creature literacy activities."

2. Visit reputable educational websites that offer resources for lesson plans and curriculum, such as teacherspayteachers.com, edutopia.org, or scholastic.com. These sites often have a wide variety of resources available for teachers and educators.

3. Use the search filters or categories on these websites to narrow down your options. Look specifically for lesson plans or unit plans that align with the grade level and literacy focus you mentioned.

4. Read the descriptions and previews of the resources to determine if they meet the criteria you're looking for. Pay attention to whether they include information about what the animals eat, how they survive underwater, and how they move underwater.

5. Another useful approach is to search for children's books or stories that focus on water animals. Look for titles that incorporate informational text or educational content, as they can be used as a basis for creating your own unit plan.

6. Consider utilizing online teacher forums or social media groups dedicated to literacy instruction. Ask fellow educators if they have come across any unit plans or resources that align with your requirements. They may be able to point you in the right direction or share their favorite materials.

Remember, it may take some time and searching to find the perfect unit plan that meets your specifications. Patience and persistence will help you in your search. Best of luck in finding a comprehensive and engaging unit plan for your literacy class!

Go back and read the sites recommended by SraJMcGin.

By the way, it would have helped if you had given us all of this information in your first post.
