need help with nominative and objective CASE PRONOUNS. these are the ones confusing me...

THE POSTAL WORKER DELIVERED A PACKAGE FOR HARRY AND SHE/HER.
MY GRANDFATHER AND HER/SHE OPERATED A SMALL INN IN VERMONT.
THE COACH PRAISED MANUEL AND HE/HIM.
WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU AND HIM/HE FOR HALF AN HOUR.
YOU MUST TELL YOUR DAD OR ME/I IF YOU WILL BE OUT LATE.
THE ONE WHO TOOK THE EARLY FLIGHT WAS HE/HIM.

Nominative (Subject) pronouns:

I, he, she, they

Objective pronouns:
me, him, her, them

A very simple way to determine which pronoun is used is to simply remove the other name and "and/or."

Example:
The postal worker delivered a package for . . . she/ her.

What do you think the others are?

The last sentence is tricky. Since "was" is a linking verb, the pronoun following it must be a nominative pronoun.

I'll be glad to check your answers.

AWESOME...no one ever told me how to check via the method you mentioned above...that helped me out ALOT!! I got it now :)

Yay! :-)

You're very welcome.

Sure! Let's break down each sentence and determine which pronouns should be used in the nominative case (subject) and objective case (object).

1. "The postal worker delivered a package for Harry and she/her."
To determine the correct pronoun, isolate the pronoun and complete the sentence by filling in the blank: "The postal worker delivered a package for Harry and _____." The correct pronoun in this case is "she" because it is the subject completing the action of delivering the package. Therefore, the sentence should be:
"The postal worker delivered a package for Harry and she."

2. "My grandfather and her/she operated a small inn in Vermont."
Similar to the previous sentence, isolate the pronoun and complete the sentence: "My grandfather and _____ operated a small inn in Vermont." The correct pronoun in this case is "she" because it is the subject performing the action of operating the inn. Therefore, the sentence should be:
"My grandfather and she operated a small inn in Vermont."

3. "The coach praised Manuel and he/him."
Again, isolate the pronoun and complete the sentence: "The coach praised Manuel and ____." The correct pronoun in this case is "he" because it is the subject receiving the action of being praised by the coach. Therefore, the sentence should be:
"The coach praised Manuel and he."

4. "We've been waiting for you and him/he for half an hour."
Isolate the pronoun and complete the sentence: "We've been waiting for _____ for half an hour." The correct pronoun in this case is "him" because it is the object of the preposition "for" and follows the pronoun "you." Therefore, the sentence should be:
"We've been waiting for you and him for half an hour."

5. "You must tell your dad or me/I if you will be out late."
To determine the correct pronoun, treat each option individually in the sentence and see which sounds more natural: "You must tell your dad or me if you will be out late." The correct pronoun in this case is "me" because it is the object of the verb "tell." Therefore, the sentence should be:
"You must tell your dad or me if you will be out late."

6. "The one who took the early flight was he/him."
Isolate the pronoun and complete the sentence: "The one who took the early flight was ____." The correct pronoun in this case is "he" because it is the subject taking the early flight. Therefore, the sentence should be:
"The one who took the early flight was he."

Remember, the nominative case pronouns are used as the subject of the sentence, while the objective case pronouns are used as the object of the verb or preposition.
