My family went to starbucks. We ordered 3 drinks. My daughter's drink was .90 cents less than my drink and my sons drink was $2.20 more than my drink. The total bill was $12.90. How much was each drink? Use algebra.

k so i did this: x+ (x-.90) + (x+2.20) = 12.90

how do you solve for x though... i tried doing this but i just don't understand pleese help

Let x = the parent's drink.

x+ (x-.90) + (x+2.20) = 12.90

Combine like terms:

3x + 1.30 = 12.90

3x = 12.90 - 1.30

3x = 11.60

x = 3.87

3.87 + 2.97 + 6.07

omg thank you, i was trying this too thanx:)

You're very welcome.

To solve for x in the equation you wrote, we can simplify it first:

x + (x - 0.90) + (x + 2.20) = 12.90

Combining like terms, we have:

3x + 1.30 = 12.90

Next, we can isolate the variable term by subtracting 1.30 from both sides of the equation:

3x = 12.90 - 1.30
3x = 11.60

Now, to solve for x, we divide both sides of the equation by 3:

x = 11.60 / 3
x ≈ 3.87

Therefore, each drink costs approximately $3.87.
