How do I cite APA style when you don't have the author or when you don't have the date?

I need help with this I don't feel like the citation machine I am working is doing it right and I want to know how to do it. Thanks!

Here's a really good website to help with APA needs:

If you post what you are coming up with, I'll check it for you.

That would be really nice i have two that i need checked

1) Big Brothers Big Sisters. (n/a). Real life stories. Retrieved from
2)Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jackson (2008). Our impact. Retrieved January 21, 2013, from

I take it these are from websites.

Scroll down and look through the section called Nonperiodical Web...

You'd use (n.d.) instead of (n/a). Check for any other little things. What you posted looks good to me, though.

ohkay thanks!

You're very welcome!

When you don't have the author or the date for an APA citation, there are specific guidelines to follow. Here's an explanation on how to cite such sources correctly:

1. When you don't have an author:
If the source you're citing does not mention an author, start the reference with the title of the work. If the title is in italics or sentence case, retain the same formatting. However, if the title is in title case (capitalizing major words), you should use sentence case for your reference list entry. Enclose the title in double quotation marks (" ").

For example, if you are citing an article titled "Understanding Climate Change," your reference entry might look like this:

"Understanding Climate Change." (Year). Title of Periodical, Volume(Issue), page range. URL or DOI (if available).

2. When you don't have a date:
If you are unable to find the date the source was published, use the abbreviation "n.d." (short for "no date") in place of the year.

For example, if you are citing a website with no publication date, your reference entry might look like this:

Author. (n.d.). Title of webpage. Site Name. URL

Note: It is always recommended to make a reasonable effort to locate the author or publication date. If you are unable to find them, use these guidelines as a last resort.

Remember, these guidelines are general and may vary depending on the specific source type you are citing (e.g., books, articles, websites). For more specific and detailed instructions, you can consult the APA Publication Manual (7th edition) or refer to credible online sources that provide APA citation guidelines.

I hope this helps you properly cite your sources in APA style!
