Ms. Sue i be on the poetry unit, and i have to write paragraph on this poem/song that be "the sound of silence" by paul simon.

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walk alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools" said I,"You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, 'The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

i have to give thematic statement first, which be a global statment. in this poem it seem like speaker be saying how humans ignore things around them and not stand up for what is not right, and that it only be about them, and we ignore. do that be what thematic statement is about?

then i have to tag and give thesis statement

in third part, i have to tell what sense of poem be. briefly explain what poem be about, it be about dead silence?

then i have to give analysis. i not get what be difference between sense and analysis. analysis be reading b/w lines?

Your thematic statement is good.

The sense of the poem is the feelings the reader or listener have. The analysis involves the brain, rather than the heart, and is more objective. Yes, the analysis is reading between the lines.

So the sense be that everyone is ignoring each other? and analysis be of neglecting?

Yes.

i not get what some quotes mean from the poem

Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,

Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, 'The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.

Because a vision softly creeping,

Left its seeds while I was sleeping,

When he woke up, he remembered a vision or an idea that occurred while he was sleeping.

Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night

The neon light was jarring and disturbed the peace.

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, 'The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.

I'm not sure about this one. It may mean that the bright light of modern civilization blocks out nature and wisdom.

so for the second one it means that people see things but they choose to ignore?

Yes, it could be.
