I need to make a thesis that uses stranger in a strange land and its backed up by the Handmaids tale.

Like I could talk about how religion causes oppression in stranger in a strange land and the handmaids tale.

Right now im trying to use this thesis:Robert A. Heinlein and Margaret Atwood use an outsider, with an alternate point of view, to show how the government, the religious institutes and the capitalistic economy, restrict freedom within society.
But I cant come up with anything the essay is not flowing how its supposed to
So if anyone could give me an idea on what to compare and talk about in my essay it would be a lot of help. Thanks.

In order to make your thesis more focused and effective, it might be helpful to break it down into specific elements of comparison between "Stranger in a Strange Land" and "The Handmaid's Tale." Here's an alternative thesis that you can use as a starting point:

"Robert A. Heinlein and Margaret Atwood employ the use of religion as a tool of oppression and explore how it restricts freedom within society in their respective novels, 'Stranger in a Strange Land' and 'The Handmaid's Tale.'"

Now let's break down this thesis into different points you can discuss in your essay:

1. Comparison of religious institutions: Analyze and compare how the religious institutions depicted in the two novels contribute to the oppression of the characters. Discuss the similarities and differences in their doctrines, practices, and the extent to which they control individuals' lives.

2. Exploration of traditional gender roles: Both novels depict societies where gender roles are strictly defined and enforced. Compare how these societal norms and expectations contribute to the oppression of individuals, particularly women. Examine the similarities and differences in the way gender is portrayed in each novel.

3. Examination of government control: Analyze how the government in each novel plays a role in restriction of freedom and perpetuating oppression. Look at the specific policies and systems put in place to control citizens, focusing on similarities and differences in the ways the governments exert their power.

4. Critique of capitalistic economy: Explore how capitalism is portrayed in "Stranger in a Strange Land" and "The Handmaid's Tale" and discuss its impact on freedom and individuality within society. Examine themes such as commodification, exploitation, and the concentration of power, highlighting the authors' criticism of capitalist systems.

Remember to provide supporting evidence from both novels to strengthen your arguments. Use quotes, scenes, and characters to demonstrate how religion, government, and capitalism contribute to the restriction of freedom. Also, don't forget to analyze and compare the authors' writing styles, character development, and narrative techniques.

By breaking down your thesis into specific points of comparison and analyzing each element separately, you will find it easier to structure your essay in a way that allows for a smooth flow of ideas.
