On my study guide my teacher gave the class it says voter suppression

in my textbook it says the definition of suppression

is that the definition?

Voter suppression means that some people try to keep some people from voting.

Voter suppression happened a lot in the South before the Civil Rights movement. Often African-Americans had to pass hard reading tests to be able vote. Some were even threatened and harrassed at the polls.

More recently, some states require picture identification in order to vote. The long, long lines and waiting times in Florida is another form of voter suppression.

Thank You!

I think the southern whites were angry because the freedmen bureau gave food and cloth to farmers slaves tried to find jobs for freedmen

You're welcome.

To confirm whether "voter suppression" is indeed the definition of "suppression," you can follow these steps:

1. Consult your textbook or any reliable source of definitions: Look up the word "suppression" in your textbook or any reputable dictionary or online resource. This will provide you with the standard meaning of the term.
2. Analyze the definition of "suppression": Read the definition carefully and understand its general concept and purpose.
3. Compare the definition of "suppression" with the term "voter suppression": Once you have the definition of "suppression," compare it to the term "voter suppression" mentioned on your study guide.

If the term "voter suppression" aligns closely with the definition of "suppression," it is plausible that your study guide is using "voter suppression" as an example or application of the broader concept. However, if there are differences or if "voter suppression" is not mentioned in the definition, then it is not the exact definition but rather a specific form or category of suppression related to voting practices.
