Please help me on this question. Thanks!

One pole measured 1.35m and the smaller pole measured 0.83m. They needed to be tied together. They were attached by overlapping the ends and tying them together. The length of the overlap was 12cm. What is the total length of the new pole. Hint: remember 100cm= 1m

Also me teacher told me to use her strategy and draw a picture to help me figure this out. How would i draw this picture?

Draw two lines, one overlapping the other a little.

12 cm = 0.12 m

1.36 + 0.83 - 0.12 = ?

so the answer would be 2.07 m or cm

2.07 meters

sorry i meant 2.07 m or 207 cm

m = meters

cm = centimeters

To solve this problem, you can start by adding the lengths of both poles together. The first pole measures 1.35m, and the second pole measures 0.83m. Adding these two lengths gives you a total length of 2.18m.

Now, we need to account for the overlap. Since the length of the overlap is given in centimeters, we need to convert it to meters. We know that 100cm is equal to 1m, so 12cm is equal to 12/100 = 0.12m.

To visualize this problem, you can draw two parallel lines representing the two poles. Label one line as 1.35m and the other line as 0.83m. Then, draw a vertical line connecting the two poles, overlapping their ends. Label this vertical line as 0.12m.

Now, to find the total length of the new pole, you need to add the length of both poles and the length of the overlap together. 2.18m + 0.12m = 2.30m.

Therefore, the total length of the new pole, after attaching the two poles by overlapping and tying them together, is 2.30m.
