If I were to do a survey on how many students have pets in my class should I include the zero amount of kids that didn't have pets in my calcualtion?

But,wouldn't the average be misleading statistic when so many students have no pets? Another student has just one pet. One kids has alot 30 pets when the others have a little.

The average sometimes is misleading for that reason. Sometimes, the median is a better statistic to use.
