decomposition of water to form elemental Hydrogen and Oxygen gas. What will be the balanced chemical equation, type of reaction and the driving force of the reaction?

  1. 2H2O ==> 2H2 + O2
    This a typical decomposition reaction; a single material forming more than one on the other side.
    I'm not sure what you want with "driving force" but I would answer that both H2 an O2 are gases so delta S increases(that's good). However, H2O won't do this on its own; energy must be added to make it decompose. You may be talking about the latter and not the former.
