If a floptical disk doesn't have a write-protection notch, how is write-protection accomplished?

It appears there is a "write-lockout" command in the firmware.

It does have a write protect tab a.k.a. switch. On the underside of the diskette. When you hold the diskette with the shutter away from you, it is in the near left corner. On a 1.44MB diskette, this is the location of the hole used to identify "HD" diskettes from DD diskettes.

If a floptical disk doesn't have a write-protection notch, write-protection can still be accomplished through other means. One possible method is by using software write-protection.

To enable software write-protection on a floptical disk, you can follow these steps:

1. Insert the floptical disk into your computer's floppy drive.
2. Open the file explorer or file manager on your computer.
3. Locate the floptical disk drive and right-click on it.
4. From the context menu, choose the "Properties" option.
5. In the properties window, look for the "General" or "Security" tab.
6. If available, check for an option related to write-protection or read-only mode.
7. Enable the write-protection or read-only option, and save the changes.
8. After making these changes, any attempt to write data to the floptical disk will be blocked by the software-based write-protection mechanism.

It's important to note that the availability and exact steps may vary depending on your operating system and disk drive software. Additionally, software write-protection can usually be overridden or bypassed, so it's not foolproof.
