The average urbanite walks about 2 yd per second.

A) How many seconds would it take to go 100yd?
B) How may seconds would it take to go 440yd?
Not sure how to go about to find the answer.

Divide.

What do you get? Do your answers make sense?

Ms. Sue, I have been trying to answer these questions, But my answer doesn't match the answers in the back of the book.

Would you multiply be 60 sec. on each of these? If that is what you should do then the answers would be 6000 and 26400 sec.

If I divided I would come up with 50 and 220

That's right.

It would take him 50 seconds to go 100 yards.

It would take him 220 seconds to go 440 yards.

To find the answer, you need to divide the total distance by the speed at which the urbanite walks. In this case, the speed is given as 2 yards per second.

A) To find how many seconds it would take to go 100 yards, divide 100 by 2:
Time = Distance / Speed = 100 yd / 2 yd/s = 50 seconds

B) To find how many seconds it would take to go 440 yards, divide 440 by 2:
Time = Distance / Speed = 440 yd / 2 yd/s = 220 seconds

So, it would take 50 seconds to walk 100 yards and 220 seconds to walk 440 yards.
