4^(-1/2)

4-1/2 = 1/41/2 = 1/2. check my work.

On exponents, negative means reciprocal.

4(-1/2) means the same as

1/4(1/2) which is the same as

1/squareroot(4)

no, of course not. The square root of 4 is 2 isn't it?
so 1/squareroot(4) = 1/2.
