let's use completing the square, the method I always use if the coefficient of the square term is 1 and the the middle term is even
x^2 + 12x + 36 = -4+36
(x+6)^2 = 32
x+6 = ± √32 = ± 4√2
x = -6 ± 4√2
x^2+12x+4 = 0
x^2 + 12x + 36 = -4+36
(x+6)^2 = 32
x+6 = ± √32 = ± 4√2
x = -6 ± 4√2
