Need help with FOV area (mm2) totally confused?

im confused i have the FOV diameter they are:
4x = 5
10x = 2
40x = 0.5

a classmate told me she thinks the area for 40 x is:
pi(5/2)^2 = 19.6
not sure if that's true or how to do it for the low and medium, magnification.
please help its due in a few days!

To calculate the FOV area, you can use the formula for the area of a circle, which is A = πr^2, where A is the area and r is the radius.

For the 4x magnification, you are given the diameter, not the radius. To find the radius, you divide the diameter by 2: 5/2 = 2.5. Now you can substitute the radius into the formula:

A = π(2.5)^2
A = π(6.25)
A ≈ 19.63 mm^2

Therefore, the FOV area for the 4x magnification is approximately 19.63 mm^2.

For the 10x magnification, you need to convert the diameter to the radius as well. The diameter is 2, so the radius is 2/2 = 1. Now you can calculate the area:

A = π(1)^2
A = π
A ≈ 3.14 mm^2

Therefore, the FOV area for the 10x magnification is approximately 3.14 mm^2.

Your classmate's calculation for the 40x magnification is correct. They substituted the radius (5/2) into the formula:

A = π(5/2)^2
A = π(6.25)
A ≈ 19.63 mm^2

Therefore, the FOV area for the 40x magnification is approximately 19.63 mm^2.

To summarize:
- FOV area for 4x magnification ≈ 19.63 mm^2
- FOV area for 10x magnification ≈ 3.14 mm^2
- FOV area for 40x magnification ≈ 19.63 mm^2

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

To calculate the FOV area, you need to know the diameter and multiply it by π/4. The formula is:

FOV area = (π/4) * (diameter)^2

Let's calculate the FOV areas for the given diameters:

For 4x magnification:
FOV diameter = 5

FOV area = (π/4) * (5)^2 = (π/4) * 25 = 6.25π or approximately 19.63 mm^2

For 10x magnification:
FOV diameter = 2

FOV area = (π/4) * (2)^2 = (π/4) * 4 = π or approximately 3.14 mm^2

For 40x magnification:
FOV diameter = 0.5

FOV area = (π/4) * (0.5)^2 = (π/4) * 0.25 = 0.196π or approximately 0.6157 mm^2

So, your classmate was correct about the FOV area for the 40x magnification. The correct value is approximately 0.6157 mm^2, not 19.6.

Remember to always square the diameter first, and then multiply it by π/4 to get the FOV area.
