Write the standard form of the equation of the line that passes through (-3,7) and is perpendicular to the line with the equation y=3x-5.

    so slope of perpendicular is -1/3
    so equation we want is of form
    y = -x/3 + b
    plug in the point
    7 = 3/3 + b
    b = 6
    so
    y = -x/3 + 6
    3 y + x = 18
    x + 3 y = 18
